Stephen F. MandelStephen F. Mandel Jr. graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy high school. He then earned a B.A. in government at Dartmouth College. From there he went on to Harvard University, Master of Business Administration.

Career:

Stephen F. Mandel Jr. started working in finance in a consulting post at Mars and Company in 1982. Then he became a mass-market consumer mass-market retailing analyst at Goldman Sachs in 1984 before moving to Julian Robertson’s Tiger Management in 1988. He was a Protégé of hedge fund legend Julian Robertson in the art of cashing in on market turmoil. Mandel left in 1997 to start his own hedge fund, Lone Pine Capital. The fund uses both long/short and long-only strategies to make profits for investors.

His Lone Pine Capital hedge fund earned 57% before fees in 2007. He had major successes with European, Asian, Latin American stocks. Stephen Mandel was managing assets of $17 billion. Firm said to have returned 25% annually net of fees. Stephen F. Mandel Jr. is on board of Teach for America. He also founded Lone Pine Foundation, dedicated to helping children and families in NYC. He serves as a trustee for Teach for America and also for Dartmouth College.
