Gregg W. Steinhafel: Target

Headquartered in Minneapolis, MN, Target was established more than a century ago when it was known as the Dayton Dry Goods Company.  It was in 1962 that the first Target store actually opened in Roseville, MN.  Today its mission is to strive to be “the preferred shopping destination for our guests by delivering outstanding value, continuous innovation and an exceptional guest experience by consistently fulfilling our Expect More. Pay Less. brand promise.”  Today it ranks as America’s second biggest discount retailer (with Walmart being the first) and numbers at 33 on the Fortune 500.  For the last two years it has become a component of the Standard & Poor’s 500 index.
