Anne Klein, together with her husband Ben, founded Junior Sophisticates in the early 1940s. The Klein’s clothing company revolutionized the clothing styles, choices and attitudes of young American women. Especially affected by the changes Anne’s designs launched was the market for junior clothing. Ann did away with what had been the “traditional little-girl” style clothes for young women. She did away button-and-bow detailing and gave this emerging group what they wanted; to look more stylish, sophisticated, and grown-up.
Ann Klein and Company was established in 1968 by Klein and fashion guru Gunther Oppenheim. Ann Klein died of breast cancer at the age of 50 in 1974.
