Becoming Vice Chairman of Johnson & Johnson’s Executive Committee in 2011, Alex Gorsky is responsible for the company’s Medical Devices & Diagnostics Group; Supply Chain; the Government Affairs & Policy Group; and the Johnson & Johnson Development Corporation. Prior to this executive role, Gorsky spent many years at the firm. It took him a while to reach this position however. Gorsky began near the bottom, as a sales rep, in 1988 for Janssen Pharmaecutica. He then moved up to sales, marketing and management and in 2001 became the company’s President. Two years later, Gorsky was appointed Company Group Chairman of Johnson & Johnson’s pharmaceuticals business in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. But it wasn’t all smooth running for Gorsky as in 2004, he left to become work for the Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation, in the role of head of the company’s pharmaceuticals business in North America.?Four years later Gorsky returned however, working as Company Group Chairman for Ethicon and was appointed Worldwide Chairman of the Surgical Care Group and a member of the Johnson & Johnson Executive Committee, the following year. In addition, he was appointed Worldwide Chairman of the Medical Devices & Diagnostics Group.
