Born in Paterson, New Jersey in 1917, Alfred Edward Kahn was an American professor or Political Economy at Cornell University and an expert in regulation and deregulation. He became a key influence in the deregulation of both the airline industry and the energy industry. Kahn became known as the “Father of Airline Deregualtion,” and he was chairman of the Civil Aeronautics Board during the years when it terminated its control of the airline industry, allowing for the growth of low-cost airlines.
