Chris Van Gorder became CEO and President of Scripps Health in 2000, having joined the firm a few months earlier. At the time, the company was losing around $15 per annum, with confidence in the firm at rock bottom. His response was co-management; the development of a top executive team; streamlining business operations and a focus on internal efficiencies, as well as improving workplace culture. Through his executive positions, Van Groder has played a vital role in leading the company to become one of the country’s principal health care institutions. As well, he is in charge of preparing it for the changes of health care reform. Van Gorder supervises all functions of the integrated health system. This includes: the company’s five acute-care hospital campuses; various outpatient centers, and a regional home health service.
