AQR Capital Management is a hedge fund established in 1998 by former Goldman Sachs trader Clifford S. Asness.

AQR Capital Management invests in public equity and hedges markets globally. In 2007 AQR Capital Management managed approximately $35 billion U.S.

AQR Capital Management was ranked in the top 100 Hedge funds in the Financial Times list. According to the Financial Times, AQR Capital Management ‘takes a systematic, computer-assisted approach to investment involving both value and momentum factors applied to several asset classes. They view themselves as fundamental rather than quantitative because they try to ‘understand the story’ behind their models rather than just rely solely on data.’

AQR Capital Management is an investment management company using a disciplined multi-asset, global research process. AQR’s investment products are supplied through collective investment vehicles and separate accounts that utilize all or a subset of AQR’s investment strategies. These investment products range from aggressive high volatility market-neutral hedge funds, to low volatility benchmark-driven traditional investments. We make investment decisions by using a series of global asset allocation, arbitrage, and security selection models, and we implement them employing proprietary trading and risk-management systems. AQR believes that a systematic and disciplined process is necessary to create long-term success in investment and risk management. Also, our models need to be based on solid economic principles, not simply built to fit past performance, and must use as much common sense as they do statistical strength. The principals of the firm have been involved in this research since the late 1980s, and have been implementing this research in various forms since 1993. AQR’s principals’ research is internationally renowned and has culminated in numerous published papers in a variety of professional journals since 1991.
