Launched in 2004 by Marc Zuckerberg, the free social media webpage Facebook Inc., today has over 845 million active users. Users register on the site, create a profile and are able to join groups; create events; set up campaigns; post and share thoughts, pictures, videos and more and generally interact with all their “friends” in a completely virtual way. Friends are categorized into different areas such as “people from work” or “close friends” but there are some rules – users must be at least 13-years of age; nothing offensive and, if something offensive is seen by other users, it can be reported. Facebook is currently worth between $75 to 100m.
