Born in 1944 in Modesto, California, George Walton Lucas is a screenwriter, film maker, director and businessman. Lucas attended the University Of Southern California School Of Cinematic Arts, one of the first universities to have a school just for the study of film making. It took only three films produced from 1971 to 1976 to establish his reputation as a major writer-director presence in the industry: THX 1138, American Graffiti, and Star Wars. Lucas was also a writer and executive producer for the successful Indian Jones series of films. Lucas led his film production company Lucasfilm Limited, which he founded in 1971, as the chairman and chief executive until he sold it to The Walt Disney Company for $4.05 billion. The acquisition by the Disney Company was announced on October 30, 2012.
The American Film Institute recognized Lucas with its Life Achievement Award on June 9, 2005. Lucas was nominated for several Academy Awards, including: Best Directing and Writing for American Graffiti and for Star Wars.
