Harold Haverty was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1930. During the 1980s and 90s Haverty was the CEO of Deluxe Corporation, a check printing and processing company since 1915. Haverty was able to achieve 25 percent or more return on equity rations for five years in a row, with double-digit revenue expansion. Haverty had the foresight to diversify Deluxe when he directed the company towards electronic funds processing and away from off-line check printing. In 1991 Haverty was recognized by Forbes Magazine as the most productive CEO of a multi-billion dollar company.
