Jaime Carey was appointed Barnes & Noble Chief Merchandising Officer in 2008, five years after having joined the company as Director of Newsstand. Some time later he was promoted to its VP. In his work to date at the firm, Carey has been in charge of purchasing for all departments (books; music, etc.). Other projects he has undertaken since being with Barnes & Noble include a total revision of the ordering and replenishing system; setting up the company to become “the most efficient supply chain in the industry.” With Carey in the role of CMO, the company has made substantial headway in its bourgeoning magazine sales, amalgamating its status as one of America’s “top magazine retailers.”
