James Dinan established York Capital Management in September 1991 and is the Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and a Managing Partner of the Firm. In addition, he is the Co-Portfolio Manager of the York Multi-Strategy, York Credit Opportunities, York Enhanced Strategies and York Event-Driven UCITS funds.
Early Life
James Dinan grew up in Worcester, MA. Dinan received a B.S. in Economics, summa cum laude, from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and earned an M.B.A. from the Harvard Business School.
Career
From 1981 to 1983, Dinan served as an investment banker at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette, Inc. There he was involved in a broad range of corporate finance and merger and acquisition activities. From 1985 to 1991, he was employed at Kellner, DiLeo & Co., There he became a General Partner and had responsibility for investing in risk arbitrage and special situation investments, including distressed securities, high yield bonds and short selling. He lost entire life savings on “Black Monday” in 1987, but came back founding York Capital
Management in 1991 with $3.6 million. York Capital specializes in merger and acquisition transactions, distressed and restructuring opportunities and special situations investing.Dinan achieved over 20% returns for 2007.
