Jim Dondero received his BS in Commerce (Accounting and Finance) from the University of Virginia. He is a Certified Public Accountant, a Certified Managerial Accountant and a Chartered Financial Analyst. From 1985 until 1989 he managed about $1 billion in fixed income funds for American Express. In 1989 Mr. Dondero became the Chief Investment Officer of Protective Life’s GIC subsidiary, and until 1993 he was a prime force which helped expand the business from its original concept to a value of over $2 billion. In 1993 he founded Highland Capital Management with Co-founder Mark Okada in Dallas, Texas, which has since become a leading manager of CLOs and other investment strategies with assets under management approximating $20 billion.
