Earning a BA, cum laude, in psychology and a BA in economics from the University of California at Los Angeles, Mark Okada then went on to earn the right to be called a Chartered Financial Analyst. In 1993 Mr. Okada co-founded, with James Dondero, Highland Capital Management, which has since become the largest manger of CLOs (collateralized loan obligations) in the US. He is one of the first to develop the bank loan market, with over 25 years of credit experience behind him. Mr. Okada can be credited with structuring one of the industry’s first arbitrage CLOs, and also is responsible for developing the bank loan separate account and mutual fund vehicles at Highland. Today Mr. Okada is the chief investment officer at Highland Capital Management as well as a director of NexBank, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Common Grace Ministries and is on the Board of Education is Freedom.
