Born in Utah and educated at the University of Utah, Raymond J. Noorda helped transform the Novell into a powerful player in the computer industry. Noorda arrived at Novell in 1982 and quickly saw that the direction of growth in the burgeoning computer marketplace lay in software manufacture more than hardware. With that in mind Noorda pushed for the development of Novell’s innovative product Netware, which dominated the network operating system market during the early 1990s.
Under Noorda’s leadership Novell grew from a $3.8 million medium sized company to a $1 billion corporation by the end of his service there in 1994.
