Robert Mercer is a computer scientist and head of hedge fund, Renaissance Technologies.   He received the Association for Computational Linguistics Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014.

Robert Mercer joined Renaissance Technologies – one of the world’s most successful quant funds – in 1993 and became co-CEO (with Peter Brown, also a former executive at IBM Research) in 2011. It was there that he was key in transforming the financial industry through the innovative use of trading algorithms.
