Founded at the end of 2001, by Eric Boyd, Garrett Camp, Justin LeFrance and Geoff Smith, StumbleUpon is the largest Internet content discovery engine, getting over a billion personalized recommendations monthly. It boasts over 20 million registered users. It finds and recommends web content to its users and lets its users discover and rate web pages, photos and videos, which are personalized to their particular tastes and interests via peer-sourcing and social-networking principles. StumbleUpon has toolbar versions for: Firefox, Google Chrome, Opera, and Internet Explorer as well as some independent Mozilla-based browsers and Safari. It has apps for iOS, Android and the Amazon Appstore. In 2007, the company was acquired by eBay for $75million but two years later Camp, Smith and other investors repurchased it.
