President, CEO and Board Chairman of Macy’s Inc. (Bloomingdale’s parent company), Terry J. Lundgren took on these executive roles in January 2004. A year earlier he was the company’s CEO and President and has also been its COO and Chief Merchandising Officer. He started his career in the retailing industry as a Bullock’s trainee (an LA branch of Federated which later merged with Macy’s) more than three-and-a-half decades ago. In his work at both Federated and Macy’s, Lundgren is well-known for an innovator in branding, localization and merchandising, having played a large role in the development of Macy’s private brands, which are today amongst its best-selling merchandise. It was also Lundgren who led the merger between Macy’s and Federated, in 2005, which resulted in the joint firm netting over 800 stores in America.
