Texas Instruments was a geophysical exploration company founded in 1930 as a company using seismic signal processing technology in the search for underground oil reserves. It was not until 1951, however that the company took on the name Texas Instruments Incorporated. TI’s first silicon transistor for use in commercial endeavors was in 1954.
TI has over 39,000 patents under its management which it has accumulated since its inception, with more than 1,200 in just 2011.
TI is ranked 200 in the Fortune 500 listing of key US companies, based on revenue for 2011, which was a total of $13.7 billion. TI operates manufacturing, design and sales facilities in over 35 countries worldwide, and has a customer base of more than 90,000.
