William T. Kerr was born in Washington in 1941 and attended the University of Washington where he received his BA. He went on to earn an MA from the University of Oxford and an MBA from Harvard University. In 1997 Kerr began to expand Meredith Corporation. He focused on the company’s core business and he tightly controlled its financial performance. Under Kerr’s management Meredith succeeded to triple its profit margin to 15 percent. Since May 2007 Kerr has been the Director of Arbitron while retaining the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors of Meredith Corporation.
